David T. Olsen’s work merges the worlds of mural painting, printmaking, animation, interactive digital media and performance.
Deeply influenced by his studies in bioengineering yet feeling constrained by academia, David T. Olsen turned to art, finding in it greater freedom to explore the sciences that fascinated him and escaping the rigidity of the academic world.
The artist, fascinated by complex theories that seek to explain life, combines modern and traditional techniques to turn scientific ideas into visual objects. He creates environments that not only explore science and life on a macro scale but also reveal the internal microscopic world, making the invisible visible.
David T. Olsen teaches courses in the Studio Art Department at Wellesley College that blend technique, theory and digital media, including animation, digital imaging, and design. He is actively involved in the Boston art community, collaborating with MIT and MassArt.
