During her residency at La Maison de Simon, Linda will investigate the marks and imprints resulting from the interaction between human activity and nature.
During her residency at La Maison de Simon, Linda will investigate the marks and imprints resulting from the interaction between human activity and nature.
Through her work Linda Williams seeks to express the emotion she feels when in the presence of nature and the feelings that marked her body and memory when as a child growing up in Sweden. After a series of paintings inspired by clear-cut forest areas and the subsequent reclaiming by nature of those spaces, she is now exploring the landscapes left behind after mining activity in her home region in Sweden. “Exploring the perception and experience of the natural surroundings, I’m fascinated by nature’s constant movement and its different stages of becoming and unbecoming. This fleetingness and perpetual change make each experience of nature unique – and heighten its beauty.” Linda Williams.
In collaboration with ceramicist Anne Delahodde, Linda Williams is continuing the second phase of her project at La Maison de Simon. They are delving deeper into her research on familial heritage and the landscape of her childhood, marked by the region’s old mine. Together, they will merge raw materials—plants, stones, and ashes brought from Sweden—to create clays, pigments, and glazes, incorporating industrial residues and natural elements into sculptural and ceramic works.
Linda and Anne explore the interplay between humanity and nature in a landscape where vegetation reclaims industrial remnants, honoring the memory of the place. Their creations express this interdependence, with each piece reinterpreting the industrial past and embodying the shared history between man and his environment.
Linda Williams invited playwright Vanja Hamidi Isacson as a Guest Resident to join her during her residency.
