Gudrun Westerlund & Ebba Stålhandske
2025 Upcoming Artists-in-Residence • Painter & Fibre artist

Painter Gudrun Westerlund and fibre artist Ebba Stålhandske, both from Sweden, share a deep connection to local nature.
The work of this artistic duo is a fusion of abstraction, figurative elements, and narrative expressions, using a wide range of materials and techniques.
Gudrun Westerlund‘s paintings, often minimalist, depict events in fictional landscapes that blend abstraction with more figurative than narrative expression. The artist draws from her memories, improvises, building her works in thin layers whose accumulation reveals an imagination steeped in the landscapes of northern Sweden, where mountains, forests, and bodies of water coexist.
Surrounded by nature, Ebba Stålhandske observes every detail. A lichen or a mossy stump can inspire weeks of work. Starting from an idea or a sketch, the artist selects suitable fabric, dyes it, and begins embroidering. Each stitch gradually shapes the final artwork.
