Zsófi Barabás
2024 Artist-in-Residence • Painter

Zsófi Barabás' work is a projection of the individual, revealing their emotions, conditions, and relationships with themselves and others.
A Hungarian visual artist living and working in Budapest, Zsófi Barabás primarily focuses on large-scale abstract paintings that blend organic and geometric forms. A graduate of the Hungarian University of Fine Arts with degrees in graphic design, painting, and education, she has also broadened her academic horizons with studies in Cambridge, Tokyo, and Germany.
Her works have been exhibited in numerous galleries and institutions, both in Hungary and internationally. Her latest solo exhibition, “The Weight of Clouds,” introduced an experimental series in which she temporarily moved away from the traditional rectangular format to explore the potential of amorphous shapes as standalone works. Returning to large-scale paintings, the artist developed a visual vocabulary using biomorphic forms that are attached, layered, and intertwined.
During her residency at the Maison de Simon, the artist plans to create a series of large-scale drawings that explore the organic flow of emotions triggered by her physical immersion in a new environment. This project aims to capture the essence of the sensations and thoughts arising from this new experience, materializing them through a distinct and powerful visual language.
