Cécile Guth moves between reality and imagination, approaching landscape as a space for freedom, color, and a renewed connection with nature.
The artist trained in drawing at the École des Beaux-Arts de Paris with James Bloede and Hubert de Chalvron, and later studied painting with Philippe Lejeune at the Atelier de la Vigne d’Étampes. She began her artistic practice with a focus on portraiture before gradually expanding her work to explore new forms and subjects. Today, landscape is at the heart of her practice, offering a space where observation, memory, and imagination come together.
Her paintings take shape through layers, rubbing, and contrasts between color and material. Transparency, texture, and variations in surface gradually build the image, allowing landscapes to emerge somewhere between the real and the imagined. In this process, material becomes part of the landscape itself, giving her paintings a tactile and immersive quality.
During her residency at La Maison de Simon, Guth will continue exploring new techniques, particularly through embroidery, bringing new forms of relief and texture into her paintings. The residency will also give her the opportunity to explore new relationships between color, material, and place, using the surrounding landscape as a source of observation, inspiration, and transformation.
