Carola van Dyke

2023 Artist-in-Residence • Textile Artist

Carola van Dyke's work explores the beauty of the natural world, either in bloom or decaying, through embroidery rich with contrasting textures, colors and layers.

Known for her contemporary botanical embroidery and textile taxidermy, Carola’s chosen medium is thread, which she uses to explore her fascination with color, textures, mismatching, layers and light. Carola van Dyke depicts nature in a raw and vulnerable way, highlighting our increasing awareness of the environment and the need to preserve it.

During her residency at La Maison de Simon, she will explore the combination of painted backgrounds incorporating exuberant rich hues with more quiet, reflective embroidered plants and flowers by visiting Monet’s garden in Giverny and observing local flora and fauna.
